Store Deep, Pick From the Front

Push-back rack gives you deep, high-density storage while keeping every lane accessible from a single aisle, with no forklift driving into the structure. Each lane holds a stack of nested carts on inclined rails: load a pallet and it pushes the others back; remove one and gravity rolls the next down to the pick face. Because each lane can hold a different SKU 2–6 deep, you get far more selectivity than drive-in at comparable density. It's faster, safer, and less prone to rack damage. What is push-back rack, and how deep does it store?

Push-back rack stores pallets 2 to 6 deep per level on nested carts that ride on inclined rails. You load and pick from the same front aisle: set a pallet and it pushes the carts behind it back up the slope, then pull a pallet and gravity rolls the next one forward. It runs LIFO (last in, first out) and gives you far better selectivity than drive-in, since each lane can hold a different SKU. How do the carts and rails move the pallets?

Each lane has a set of nested carts on slightly inclined rails. The first pallet sits on the top cart at the front. Load a second pallet and it pushes the first one back and up, and so on down the lane. When a pallet comes off, gravity brings the next one down to the pick face on its own. Nothing drives into the rack, so it is faster and safer than drive-in while still storing many pallets deep.

Push-back, drive-in, or pallet flow: which one fits me?

Push-back sits between density and selectivity: it stores deep like drive-in, but every lane stays reachable from the front and no lift ever enters the structure. Go push-back for LIFO product where you want density plus a range of SKUs. Go drive-in for the densest single-SKU storage, and pallet flow when you need strict FIFO rotation.
